Jan Bann comments so...

Happened to attend one of the best organized and passionately presented software product launches in India today. It was the launch of BOP-4 (Business Operations Platform - v4) from Cordys at Hyderabad. Jan Baan as always gave a spontaneous but very effective speech. Some of the comments.

"ERP is dead, Long live BPM"

"There are two kinds of world - Old world and New world. Companies that can't come to new terms will be gone... may not be gone but they can't monopolize any longer. Monopoly of MS is over"

"Data is King. But this data king has become old and in fact ugly and unmanageable" . "We have moved away from Data Centric to Process Centirc" solutions development.

More about the event and points to ponder from the event a bit later.

What is a real birthday?

There is nothing special about people celebrating birthdays. Even though I wonder why would one celebrate a day that takes you closer to death by a year, unless you believe in getting back to Godhead (like me).
I am afraid, I age much faster than others (atleast 3 times faster) as I am most often forced to celebrate my birth day 3 times in a year all within a gap of 30 to 45 days. One is of course the real date of birth as per gregorian calendar. Another one as per the birth star in the tamil calendar month I was born, which is most often on a different date. And the 3rd one is based on birth date given while admitting me in school, which has become THE OFFICIAL birth date in school, college, job, passport and all other legal documents. To list them all
- REAL Gregorian birth date
- REAL Star birth date (as per tamil calendar)
- REAL Official Birth date. (Date given by parents at the time of school admission). Those days there was no insistence on birth certificates and I still do not have one.
May be the the term REAL has lost meaning in this context.

A book by my CSC colleague Hema Hari and her husband D K Hari

Will History Repeat Itself? Triple Eclipse of 2009. Ominous? Promising?

My colleague Hema Hari Damal Kandadai ( hharidamalka@csc.com ), Hema in short, and her husband D K Hari ( http://www.bharathgyan.com/ ) have recently released a book with the above title.

This week I had an opportunity to read the same. I enjoyed reading every bit of it. , I was amazed with the amount of research that has gone into writing this book, with authentic historic references with colorful illustrations. Kudos to Hema and D K Hari and my sincere thanks to them for coming forward to publish this just in time. The timing of the book, to go with the 3 eclipses that are to occur in the next 35 days (7th July 2009, 22nd July 2009 and 6th Aug 2009) has created some real excitement in the news and media out here. The couple are sought after by many news channels and the book is reviewed in multiple news reports.

Published by The Art of Living foundation, this is getting international reviews as well.

There are of course different points of view and that is what social progress is all about.

Synopsis :

This book – “Will History Repeat Itself ? Triple Eclipse of 2009 - Ominous? or Promising?”, looks at the interplay among human beings, societies and civilizations of this world and the interplay between this world and the astronomical events in the cosmos, from a rational, logical, holistic, inter-disciplinary perspective.

To understand these various levels of interplay, the authors of the book, D K Hari and D K Hema Hari of Bharath Gyan, have used the Indian civilization and its global relationships as the backdrop in this book.

They have used the Triple Eclipse that is to occur on 7th July 2009, 22nd July 2009 and 6th Aug 2009, as the trigger, to pause, look around and take stock of the current situations enveloping the world today. The adage “History repeats itself” seems to be ominously true.

The earliest recorded triple eclipse of mankind that occurred in the year 3067 BCE portended the Kurukshetra war. The triple eclipse that repeated itself 36 years later, was a harbinger of the destruction of the city of Dwaraka and also other major coastal civilizations of that time namely Kumari Kandam, Mesapotomia and the Biblical civilization of Noah’s Ark, all of which seem to be in one geographic arc.

In the modern world too, the triple eclipses have been occurring at frequent intervals which have been recorded. Co-relating this with recent world history, we see that the world has gone through a very traumatic period between 1910 and 1945 in the form of the World Wars I and II, the holocaust and the nuclear bombings, when the frequency of these triple eclipses was comparatively high.

This earth, starting from July 2009 is to witness another series of frequent triple eclipses for the next one decade. What does this portend? To answer this question, this book has looked at the Geological scenario as well as the Geopolitical scenario and their probable outcomes.

Do these eclipses only foretell catastrophes or do they also ring in a good message?

If we look at the same events of the past, we find that, along with each of these calamitous event, the world has received a new message or order. This book also examines these promising messages, along with what can be the message that the triple eclipse season starting 2009 could usher in.

Once we realize the interplay between the microcosm and the macrocosm, we will see that it is the cycles of nature which dominate our relationships, the evolution of civilizations and as to how this earth progresses.

This relationships and the nobility in their interplay has been expressed as Dharma, a traditional ethos as understood by the Indian civilization. In the future, as we look at one global world and one global family, espoused as the concept of Vasudeiva Kutumbakam or the world is one family, by our ancients many millennia ago, the factor that will be needed to govern the interplay among the peoples themselves and with nature, could well be “values and nobility”, which is Dharma”.
This Dharma, in turn is in sync with Rtha or the rhythm of the interplay in the universe. It is perhaps this understanding and the knowledge of our forefathers which has come down to us in the form of the oft repeated, global adage “History repeats itself”.

Is this the message for the future? These and such other aspects have been interwoven in this book and brought forth as an interesting read for the common man and the thinker alike to relish, think and act appropriately.

A day to remember!

Today was investiture ceremony at Krithika's school. She was designated as the girl captain of the Hercules group and took oath to serve the school. It was really a proud moment indeed for self and Latha as we were watching the ceremony in person today morning. There were other groups as well (like Jupiter etc) and each of them had a boy and girl captain and vice captain and there was a designation for the school captain and vice captain as well. The whole event was done in a kind of serene atmosphere in the open grounds in the middle of the school under a blue sky with white clouds in the morning hours between 8:30AM and 9:30AM. I was a bit moved when I joined everybody (chorus) to sing the National Anthem, after a very long time. I have taken photos and videos of this moment for Krithika to cherish them in her later years.
Krithika - We are proud of what you have accomplished so far and please keep it up!!!
